Action Steps Men's Small Groups

You recently expressed interest in forming a local St. Joseph's Covenant Keepers [SJCK] group. We thank you for your initiative and your commitment to the Faith.
Here are some suggestions for you:

  • Attend an SJCK conference where the Eight Commitments are being discussed. Bring along a few key leaders from your local area. Our conferences are listed in the latest issue of the SJCK Newsletter and are regularly posted at our website, www.dads.org. You may also contact our office by phone, fax or mail for a list of upcoming conferences.
  • Introduce the Eight Commitments, the foundation of SJCK, to your community. This can be done by setting up an informal group that can meet either in private homes or at parishes.
Proceed by:

  1. Using the Men's Small Group Study Guide along with the book Christian Fatherhood and/or the Eight Commitments Audiotape Study Album. This is an 8-16 week course of study.
  2. Having a Group Bible Study using the Navarre Study Bible or The Carpenter Shop Bible Study Series - The Gospel According to St. John by Steve Wood (10-12 weeks study).
  3. Teaching children the Faith, using the Faith & Life Series. We would suggest getting at least three grade levels for a group (e.g. grade levels 1,4, & 8), or specific grades based on the children's median ages. Ask the Family Life Center for the free tape "How to Teach Religion to Your Children" which accompanies the purchase of the Faith & Life Series.
  4. Reading and discussing Jim Burnham's book Beginning Apologetics, Volumes I and II. The Study Guide for Beginning Apologetics specially written for group use can by purchased on our website.
  5. Giving us your feedback: your experiences, your ideas and your suggestions for developing our apostolate and following up on our conferences. Through groups we can foster communication among men within a framework of strong faith.
